Most traffic sent to one real server
Information
Summary: |
This article will discuss uneven load balancing when connecting through the LoadMaster. |
Environment: |
Product: LoadMaster Version: Any Platform: Any Application: Any |
Question/Problem Description: |
We have 4 web servers that have been balanced by least connection and Source IP persistence (1 hour) for several years. Today, one web server received a disproportionate share of the connections - 400+ while the other members received 150. This caused the web server to peg. I disabled persistence and they evened out, turned persistence back on and the same web server climbed again in active connections. Please advise. |
Steps to Reproduce: | |
Error Message: | |
Defect Number: | |
Enhancement Number: | |
Cause: | This scenario is caused by multiple or all clients connecting through a device that proxies. When this happens, all connections appear to originate from an individual IP. When the Source IP is observed by the Virtual Service, it will forward all traffic for that IP to the server that Persistence is already allocated to. |
Resolution: | Either the proxy device must be removed, or an alternate Persistence Mode must be used, as outlined here: https://support.kemptechnologies.com/hc/en-us/articles/202040875-What-are-the-Layer-7-persistence-methods. As a best practice, we typically recommend Active Cookie Persistence. |
