Real server health checks not being sent out by LoadMaster

Information

Summary:

Real server health checks not being sent out by the LoadMaster

Environment:

Product: LoadMaster

Version: Any

Platform: Any

Application: Any

Question/Problem Description:

All of the health checks configured for Real Servers fail when trying any type of health check method such as ICMP, HTTP, HTTPS, and TCP, etc.

Under statistics > real time statistics > real servers: no stats are populated. It doesn't even appear that the LM is trying to connect to real servers.

Steps to Reproduce:
Error Message:
Defect Number:
Enhancement Number:
Cause:
Resolution:

  1. No health checks are being sent out from the loadmaster at all.
  2. This can be further tested by running a tcp dump on the loadmaster, filtering on both the relevant health check interface and real server IP, and then letting the capture run for 20 seconds.
  3. The real server check method can be changed on the virtual service to try and generate extra health check traffic.
  4. After stopping, downloading, and opening the tcp dump in Wireshark, it will be empty with no traffic sourcing from the loadmaster to the real server at all.
  5. In situations like this, it is recommended to reboot the loadmaster.
  6. After the loadmaster comes back online, health checks should start passing on the services again.
  7. Another tcp dump can be ran to confirm the appropriate health check traffic is being generated.
