OCI VM.Standard.E3.Flex unit is rebooting
Information
Summary: |
After changing the VM Shape to VM.Standard.E3.Flex in OCI, the LoadMaster reboots by itself |
Environment: |
Product: LoadMaster Version: Any Platform: Oracle Cloud (OCI) Application: Any |
Question/Problem Description: |
The VM.Standard.1.2 shape is being decommissioned by Oracle in October 2023. |
Steps to Reproduce: | |
Error Message: |
2023-10-03T18:40:27+00:00 lb100 logger: System Booted Intel GenuineIntel |
Defect Number: | |
Enhancement Number: | |
Cause: | The LoadMaster current kernel does not support AMD. |
Resolution: |
VM.Standard.1.2 units are Intel-based which are supported by the LoadMaster kernel. As seen below, by default VM.Standard.E3.Flex are AMD-based while VM.Standard.1.2 are Intel-based: So, in order to get the LoadMaster to work with a VM.Standard.E3.Flex unit, the CPU must the changed to be Intel-based. To do so, from OCI, flexible shape compability must be added to the custom image (opencloud-qcow2-kemp-vlm). This can be done by following the steps listed below: https://docs.oracle.com/en-us/iaas/Content/Compute/Tasks/managingcustomimages.htm#To33 Once completed, the instance can be modified to use a VM.Standard.E3.Flex shape which should now be Intel-based: Last, a reboot is recommened so the LoadMaster reflects the new CPU. To do so, navigate to the WUI > System Configuration > System Administration > System Reboot > Reboot. After the LoadMaster comes up, the boot logs will show the updated CPU details: KERNEL supported cpus: Intel GenuineIntel |
