Hardware Upgrade Notes
The NG line of LoadMaster and ECS Connection Manager hardware appliances (released in 2023) use the UEFI boot method. Previous hardware models used the BIOS boot method. What this means for you is that you will only be able to update hardware with new firmware using update images that support the boot method used by the hardware being updated. See the table below for the restrictions.
7.2.54.4 and earlier |
7.2.54.6 | 7.2.55.x to 7.2.59.1 |
7.2.59.2 and later |

FIPS Mode Upgrade Path
With LMOS 7.2.54.7, FIPS mode is updated to use the OpenSSL 3.0.8 FIPS Object Module (FOM). The previous version of the FOM (1.0.2) used in earlier FIPS mode releases will no longer be maintained.
The following LMOS versions use the Legacy FOM:
- 7.2.54.6 and below
- 7.2.55.0 through 7.2.59.1
The following LMOS versions use the OpenSSL 3 FOM:
- 7.2.54.7
- All future 7.2.54.x versions will include the OpenSSL 3 FOM.
- A version of LMOS subsequent to 7.2.59.1 will also include the OpenSSL 3 FOM; this is expected to be released in 2024.
Updating Legacy FOM Systems
Generally, you can upgrade any system running the existing legacy 1.0.2 FOM to any LMOS version running the latest 3.0.8 FOM.
Note that if you are downgrading the system -- for example, going from 7.2.58.0 to 7.2.54.7 -- some functionality introduced after 7.2.54.7 will no longer be available. Although we make every effort to move features from the top of tree to the LTSF branch as soon as they are stable, there is always a bit of a lag between feature introduction and back-porting to the 7.2.54.x branch.
Updating OpenSSL 3 FOM Systems
At this time, there is no update available that can be applied to the system when running in FIPS mode. The FIPS mode update mechanism will refuse to install a patch using the Legacy FOM to a system running the OpenSSL 3 FOM. A 7.2.54.8 release is planned for mid-2024.
Switching to the Previous Partition
Note that it is still possible to return to the previous update partition containing the version running the Legacy FIPS module, as long as there has been no update applied to the system since installing 7.2.54.7. Note, however, that any configuration changes made in between the installation of 7.2.54.7 and the time when you switch back to the previous partition will be lost -- such as newly uploaded security certificates. You should take a backup of the system before you change partitions so you can restore configuration changes after switching partitions.
XML Update Verification Notes
Note to users who are on firmware versions before 7.2.51.0 / 7.2.48.3 and are using the XML verification feature in the LoadMaster UI. The following upgrade path must be used:
- Patch to 7.2.51.0 / 7.2.48.3 (using the pre7.2.51.0 XML file)
- Patch to the desired LMOS version using the single XML file provided with the release.
Comments
I had an issue from upgrading from 6.0-42 to 7.1-28b where I was stuck on the EULA screen. I had to rollback so upgrade to 7.0 first instead!
We identified that the upgrade path for versions prior to 7.0-10 will need to first upgrade to 7.0-10 before moving forward to subsequent releases.
Link for 7.2.x upgrade does not work.
I see KEMP rolled back 7.2.x and discourages the use...
Why isn't this document maintained with each firmware release? The links to 7.1.35.3 are dead links, and I have to make the assumption that the new upgrade path for 7.2.x is via 7.1.35.4.
"Upgrade to latest 7.2.x" link does not work.
"Upgrade to latest 7.2.x" links have been corrected.
Thank you carrie!
"If firmware 7.0.x to 7.1.x Upgrade to 7.1.35.5 Reboot your Loadmaster."
Linkt to 7.1.35.5 dead
yes the links are dead, allmost all of them!
Hi Christian Hügel i Got the link, by fifling around with their link structure:

The links on this page have been updated/corrected and tested as working. Our apologies for any inconvenience/confusion.
This needs to be removed from the "related articles" on the current firmware update page. I was hoping for the steps to do the upgrade and found content that hasn't been updated in 5 years.
Also, changing the "Edited" timestamp to be the last time someone viewed the page is deceptive.
Hi Nick Piacentine
The article itself is for an upgrade path and has been updated recently. The content is still relevant if coming from old firmware.
I see you also opened up a ticket referring to the article below:
Is this what you were referring to being out dated? There was a broken link on the second line which I just fixed. I will see if we can put this on product download page as well for future use.
Dear Everyone,
If currently this was my LMOS 7.2.42.0.16189.RELEASE.20180329-1938 is it fine to directly upgrade to 7.2.55 latest LMOS firmware?
Hi Synlab Rechenzentrum
Yes you can go directly to 7.2.55.
