How To Replace An SSD On The LoadMaster

If you are upgrading the LoadMaster to support the Edge Security Pack (ESP) or if you had a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA), you may need to replace the Solid State Drive (SSD) drive. If KEMP sends you an SSD, it has already been created with the LoadMaster's ISO and also burned in to have the same serial number as the unit you are going to replace it with. Below are steps on how to replace/install the SSD in the LoadMaster while retaining all of your configuration settings. Lastly, make sure you are installing the correct SSD to the correct LoadMaster so that there is no serial number mismatch.

  1. Save a backup of the LoadMaster by going to System Configuration > System Administration > Backup/Restore and click Create Backup File.
  2. Save the SSL certificates by going to Certificates > Backup/Restore Certs. In the Certificate Backup section, enter a Passphrase. Enter the same passphrase again in the Retype Passphrase text box. Click Create Backup File.
  3. Turn the LoadMaster off, unplug the power cable and remove the cover.
  4. Remove the cables from the old SSD or Disk On a Module (DOM) drive. Remove the mounting screws that hold the drive to the case (if this is replacing an SSD (DOMs do not have a mounting bracket)). Finally, remove the old drive from the case. Ensure to not bump anything too hard on the way out.
  5. Install the new SSD into the case.
  6. Connect one end of the Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) data cable and power connector to the SATA connectors on your motherboard and the remaining end to your SSD. (You can reuse the same wires that were plugged into the old SSD/DOM.)
  7. Put the mounting screws back together and tighten it.
  8. Put the case back on.
  9. Plug in and turn on the LoadMaster
  10. Set up a temporary IP address for licensing purpose. License the LoadMaster by following the steps in the Licensing Feature Description.
  11. If the device is in High Availability (HA) mode, select the appropriate HA mode (the HA mode should be the same as the old configuration). Go to System Configuration > Miscellaneous Options > HA Parameters and set the correct HA mode. It is recommended that you use a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server for time synchronization. Go to Local Administration and select Date/Time and fill out the appropriate NTP and time zone information.
  12. Import the certificates by going to Certificates & Security > Backup/Restore Certs > Restore Certificates.
  13. Import the backup by going to System Configuration > System Administration > Backup/Restore > Restore Backup. Select LoadMaster Base Configuration and VS Configuration to be restored.
  14. Reboot the unit.
