Question/Problem Description:

How to downsize flow data storage on the virtual collector?

Enhancement Number:
Cause:
Resolution:

By connecting a smaller data disk to the virtual appliance

  • Is necessary to set the quotas for all profiles and plugins so that the maximum allocated space will be smaller than the final size of the new data disk. (For example, I want to replace a 1TB data disk with a 500GB data disk. In the quotas manager, I will allocate only 400GB of space for all profiles and plugins if installed) - via this step, we will delete older data in a controlled manner. This step might take a long time based on the amount of data being deleted.
  • Shutdown the appliance
  • Connect a new smaller data disk
  • Power on the appliance
  • Go to Configuration Center - System - System settings - Data storage - Rescan
  • Select new disk - Save - Create partition
  • Reboot the appliance (data are migrated from the old data disk to the new one during the reboot so reboot might take a long time based on the amount of data being migrated)
  • The disk is resized, and now it is possible to adjust quotas in Configuration Center - Resource manager

This method is similar to is mentioned in the "Flowmon Virtual Appliances" Guide -> Post-Installation Steps -> Extend Data Storage Capacity:
