An interface shows as down in the logs

Question/Problem Description:

We received an interface link is down message in our logs

Steps to Reproduce:  
Error Message: [CRITICAL] Link eth1 is **DOWN**
Defect Number:  
Enhancement Number:  
  • This indicates that an interface has been disconnected.
  • If accompanied by a "[CRITICAL] Partner has failed, becoming MASTER" message in the logs, this indicates an HA failover.
  • Investigate the networking cable or virtual NIC for any kind of disconnect.
  • If this is related to HA, determine if a reboot was initiated manually or for any network disconnects.
  • It would also be worthwhile to take a look at the switch.  For example, the cable and ports could be working correctly but the port on the switch is administratively down
