OWA Disconnects Abruptly below timeout setting

0

Users are facing disconnects using OWA (Exchange 2013) which has been published by KEMP VLM1000. The firmware is 7.1-20b. Previously it was 7.0-8e. Has the disconnect issue as reported by a few people.

In the VLM1000 the network connection timeout is set to 30 minutes. But when using OWA, it will disconnect within 2-5 minutes.

The Exchange server private and public computer settings are not set and are default settings.

On the OWA page, we will see the message "Error: The server isn't available. Please try again later.".

OWA works without disconnecting when using https://<servername>/owa and done internally behind the KEMP VLM.

Hello,

I make a rollback in 7.1-16...
Or you can disconnect your cellphone and it works. This error became when your ActiveSync session and your OWA session are in the same network (at home for exemple).

Hi,
If you are having issues with ActiveSync/Phone causing OWA/PC session to logout (where both are on the same internal network and NATing to the same IP) a workaround it to create two separate SSO domains (one for each SubVs). If each SSO domain is specified to use different Logon Formats (username /principal-name) this should prevent the issue. (This is a know issue that effects a small number of users but the workaround described should resolve until upcoming feature enhancement is in place)

This issue have been addressed from our Dev Department and the fix will be released on the next Firmware Release (7.1-28) that will be available on our Website at the end of July - July 22nd 2015.

does owa disconnect everytime owa and activesync share a connection or does it happen under certain circumstances?, is this issue easily reproducible?

Hi infrasa,
There was a known issue whereby the same username (matching username format also) could not have both Basic (Active Sync) and Form Based (OWA) authentications at the same time , if the requests came from the same IP address. The result would be connection disconnects.
This has been fixed however in the latest firmware

Realise this is an old post. But I'm still experiencing this behavior. LM 7.2.45, Exchange 2016.

Almost exactly as you described:

Same username (matching username format)

User has ActiveSync (Smartphone) & Form Based (OWA) connected/authentications at the same time (connected via VPN with requests coming from the same IP).

OWA disconnects after a couple of minutes and in some cases almost immediately after login.

Can confirm, we are on Exchange 2016 with firmware 7.2.48.1.17992 and getting the exact same problem with fba w/ SharePoint & OWA.

Edit : We found out the problem was because we were using LDAP + Radius on the same domain. For example, activesync using ldap sso domain and owa using Radius. When the mobile would make a request, it would drop the same user logged into ESP form based in the browser. So we change the login in Radius for username@realm format instead of username@domain which is not used by activesync and is also a valid workaround for this issue. Support tell us 7.2.51 should also fix this problem.
